Time to start preparing for filing taxes. Here are some quick tips to get ready for tax season:
1. Get organized. Print out a tax checklist to help you gather all the tax documents you’ll need to get to your accountant.
2. Don’t throw away anything that comes in the mail in January that is tax-related, even if they look like trash.
3. Fund your retirement account for 2013 by April 15th. That’s the deadline for contributions to a traditional IRA and Roth IRA.
4. Retrieve all those piled up receipts and information you’ve been saving all year.
5. Group similar documents and receipts together. Use file folders to help keep items separate.
